Winol - 4th May

This week we have had our first ever work experience person in. His name is Jack and he is looking for a career in directing. We showed him round the studio and the gallery but he actually knew a lot of what we were showing him because he had his own studio at home. Over the next two weeks he helped us a lot and was able to show us new ways of doing things that we had not thought of before. I hope we were able to pass over some of our knowledge to and that his work experience was enjoyable.

This week did not go as well as planned. We also did not have a guest editor in which was lucky because this week was not our best work. The script was late and was not written correctly so we did not know when VT's were being played or OOV's. This confused everyone in the gallery. There was a very complicated OOV featuring Eddie Izzard which none of the production team were told about until the last minute and we did not go live at three becuase Sam Homewood's microphone stopped working; this meant I had to run downstairs and correct the problem whilst we were meant to be starting the bulletin.

In the headlines we have now decided that we are going to have straps for them but without the 'WINOL NEWS' written on them. Just a blank strap with the headline on it. Due to the headline clips being changed at last minute and the straps for them too, one strap did not have the 'WINOL NEWS' part taken off of it and so there is a continuity error.

We did manage a Skype conversation to America about Bin Laden and the Royal Wedding which worked perfectly and overall I am very happy with this part of the bulletin. It means were opening up our bulletin for more views and it also helps with the production teams knowledge of how to Skype through the Studio on to the live output.

All of this said the team did really well and we managed to get the bulletin out, jsut about 3 minutes late. Our last problem then came that when we were editing the bulletin in Final Cut the sound did not synv with the vision. This took a couple of hours to rectify and then another hour uploading to Youtube. The ustream version also did not work so we were not able to put this up at 4, instead the whole bulletin went up about half 6. This again was then wrong as the voice synced back out and so Chris then went on and changed it again.

All in all a really bad week. We did have Hana join us this week and Jack so our team is growing too. We also did not have meetings Monday and it was our first time back in the Studio for five weeks. This was another learning week for us. We also need to figure why the voice was not synced in editing and need to be more organised for Geoff Hill from CNN next week.
